THE PROBLEM

Older vehicles are polluting our environment

For many vehicles with Euro 4, 5 and 6b certification real-world emissions or Real Driving Emissions (RDE) are higher when compared to their officially certified values, whereas Euro 6d-temp and Euro-6d certifications vehicles are compliant to the emission limits. It is older cars however, that still emit significant NOx (diesel) and particulates (petrol). Such levels put our health and the environment in danger.

The difference Retrofit Emissions Control (REC) systems will make to emissions levels

Retrofit Emissions Control systems are designed to reduce emissions levels for both older petrol and diesel vehicles. They are attached between the engine and tailpipe and reduce emissions levels. However, currently there is no uniform way of certifying such systems for use throughout Europe. This study’s objective is to source as many systems as possible, test them and report the findings to the European Commission in order to assess the performances of such systems and regulate their adoption.

CLOVE (Consortium for ultra Low Vehicle Emissions) is a consortium of European academic, research and business experts in the field of emissions. The Consortium was created to offer its expertise to the European Commission regarding emissions analysis and reduction and had worked together with the Commission on several fact-finding studies in their joint effort to find effective solutions to reduce emissions on the continent and beyond.
